Internal linking

Use rel=“nofollow“ for specific links

The text below about this theme is an extract of
this article.

If you write a post that has both internal links to your site and external links to other sites, then you probably want to get the maximum link juice to your internal posts. You can do this by adding a nofollow attribute to your external links. Nofollow attribute instruct search engines to not transfer any link juice from your site to the external site. This is how a rel=nofollow attribute is added to a link.

Unfortunately while WordPress allows you to open a link in a new window by default, it does not allow you to easily add rel=”nofollow”. Up until now you either had the option to nofollow all external links automatically or manually add the nofollow tag to each link by editing HTML.

Adding nofollow attribute manual Option

Add the link via the link option in the window/tab „Visual“ of WordPress.

  1. Select the option „open link in a new tab“ and write the link text and put the link URL.

2. Go to the tab/windown „Text“ of WordPress and write direct in the HTML code before the „>“ the next: rel=“nofollow“

another example:

<a href="">My Sponsor Link</a>
<a href="" rel="nofollow">My Sponsor Link</a>

Adding nofollow attribute via Plugin

If you have a nofollow plugin in your WordPress, you can do this more easy.

  1. Just Select the option Openlink in a new window and Add relnofollow link.
  2. That’s all the plugin will do the HTML work for you. 😉

Link internally when possible.

Inbound links to your content help show search engines the validity or relevancy of your content. The same goes for linking internally to other pages on your website.

If you’ve written about a topic that’s mentioned in your blog post on another blog post, ebook, or web page, it’s a best practice to link to that page.

Not only will internal linking help keep visitors on your website, but it also surfaces your other relevant and authoritative pages to search engines.
